Alaska Occupational Therapy Association
Join the Anchorage FASD Diagnostic Team
This is a great opportunity for an OT who is interested in FASD and would like to make a difference in their community
The Anchorage FASD Diagnostic Team consists of nurse practitioners, psychologists, occupational therapists, speech language pathologists, physical therapists, and family representatives.
Currently the team needs OTs who are skilled in the assessment of sensory issues and visual perceptual/motor skills and are interested in seeing clients ranging from childhood through young adulthood (you can specify what age range you prefer).
There are two ways that you can become involved:
As an OT provider you will have the opportunity to become a full member of the team by completing the University of Washington 4-Digit Diagnostic Code online training. This training is self-paced and you will be reimbursed $110 for the course. Your responsibilities as part of this team are to: perform and write up assessments/evaluations (at your convenience) and attend occasional team meetings. Team members are reimbursed at the rate of $50/client for their time spent in diagnostic team meetings. These team meetings are fascinating because the effects of prenatal alcohol exposure differ for each individual. The team meetings are generally scheduled around the needs of the attendees and usually are 1.5 to 2 hours for each client. In general you can expect to see one client per month.
If you do not wish to become a full team member, the team can still use assessment information provided by an OT who is in private practice and willing to accept referrals. You would be in control of how many clients are referred to your practice.
